Day 10… Prep Master Shower
I’m not going to fib, this series of the remodel fell over a few weeks since there were multiple concurrent projects going on. Master shower stall is completely stripped, ready for upgrades.
The first order of business was upgrading the plumbing hardware to offer us a dual output system, consisting of a rain maker and shower wand. We also raised the shower head significantly, to take advantage of the ceiling height and concussive effect of the water. Shower valve, diverter and outlets are all perfectly placed.
The next heavily involved part of this room was demoing the concrete slab around the drain. The bath drain placement was not going to work for us. After a few hours carefully using a rotary hammer, everything is exposed to set up the drain on center with the shower pan.
Making sure I have enough to grab onto with the new drain system.
New bench and base of shower pan are in! We opted for a narrow dam, versus a wide one. It makes stepping into the shower that much easier.
New drain and trap have been installed, and first pour of concrete is in around them. That is an Ebbe for those sharp eyed folks 🙂 I caulked the base to keep the leveler in, it can really work it’s way through some tight gaps.
This was probably unnecessary, but I prepped the base of the shower pan with a full bag of self leveling compound. I wanted a clean and fresh base for the shower pan contractor to start with.
Shower pan is in! I can say I am very thankful this happened while we were not occupying the property, because the odor from the tar hung around for a week. We are now ready for our tile contractor to start the installation!
