When built, our house had two linen closets in the hall, one to the left of the bathroom, and one at the end of the hallway. Our goal was to increase floor square footage in both our hall bath, and the second master bedroom closet. This involved removing the interior walls, and closing the exterior doorways.
The second master closet was going to be too small, and the linen closet wasn’t very useful for our needs. Why not double the closet size? So that is what we did. I had to remove a few stud bays to open the new space to the master, and build a header down to match the existing door opening. (Don’t worry, none of our interior walls are load bearing.) Wiring for the existing closet light was shifted over to a new location in the wall.
You can see the newly closed door opening here, it was as simple as assembling a few studs into the doorway to secure drywall to. This ended up having a lot of drywall work for such a small improvement.
This shot of our hall bath exposes the reclaimed space, which allowed us to convert the single sink and 4.5′ bath to a double sink vanity and 6′ bath!
