Day 35- Radiant Floor Heat

Day 35- Radiant Floor Heat

Removing that Jacuzzi tub was a relief, and on the plus side freed up two 20 amp circuits in the bathroom. A fun part of this remodel was the ability to dream big as it were, and what could be better than in floor heat in Southern California?

Off to research in floor heat and controllers. Another rabbit hole fallen into… I won’t bore you with those details, but we found a wifi controller and a radiant mat that fit perfectly into our target area.

Radiant mat laid out, this was relatively simple. We were in a hurry to get this done before tile started in the shower, as we wanted all of the wiring routed and tested prior to getting covered up. I had to drill a hole in the slab to accommodate the floor temperature sensor, which we were able to incorporate without much fuss. This is a self adhesive backed mat, and laying it perfectly square was a bit of a challenge by myself, but it was manageable.

This product is designed for tile floors, but with our glue down vinyl plank the floating floor mat wasn’t an option. One round of self leveling over the mat to get us started, and we did a much larger pour after the tile project was done to feather into the master and towards the vanity and water closet.

The second pour of self leveling was feathered into the water closet, under the vanity, into the closet, and ever so gently sloped to prevent the feeling of a ramp or edges.

This made for a nice Mother’s Day gift 🙂
