We interviewed and engaged our tile contractor, who did an amazing job on both of our bath tile projects. They brought some great advice on a number of unknown/unknowns for us. Waiting in line for them to finish other jobs gave us ample time to select and order our materials.
Our original consultation yielded a pre-made shower niche in between one stud bay. These are common, but our tile contractor suggested that Carol try fitting some of her products in before we started installation. This size wasn’t going to work…
Day one of prep, I was able to alter the niche size to one that would accommodate all of our necessary shower products and accessories, going two stud bays wide. None of our interior walls are load bearing if you were wondering 😉
It was also suggested I map the niche on the bedroom wall behind, so we didn’t inadvertently try to hang something that would damage the niche. Another great idea! Measurements are from the floor and adjacent wall for reference.
Barrier and scratch backing going in.
Round one.
A square and plumb surface was created to start fitting tile.
Final round!
It is starting to look like a shower!
Our bench presented a small measurement issue, but it was corrected quickly by our fast thinking contractor. Luckily 24″x24″ tiles were available to avoid any grout lines on the horizontal surface.
Liner is in, and niche is almost finished. Home stretch? Not yet.
Picking grout colors was anew wrinkle we knew was coming, but didn’t realize the impact it could have. Choices needed to be made.
Our rainmaker shower head showed up!
Grout is finished, time for fixtures.
Fixtures are in, and shower glass installed! We were weeks behind and significantly over budget, but this turned out exactly like we envisioned. Flooring and most of the master bath was finished by the time our glass was ready for install. It was ordered three times… before it was 100% correct.
