Our Heatilator fireplace vents were damaged during the horrific tile demo, and they needed to be replaced. They were cast aluminum, and no ready made replacements could be located. These also had tiny blower fans to help aid the convection process.
You can see the intake vents on the bottom, and exhaust on the top. With a roaring fire, the top vent emits really hot air; so much so that nothing can be hung above it without melting/burning.
A quick email to Dave at Crown Steel set up an appointment to drop off our existing vents to measure. He put together this pattern and executed the manufacturing on his laser table.
First coat of primer going on. Scrap wood or cardboard pieces are great for this kind of thing.
Final coat of flat black turned out well.
In most light, the vents don’t even appear to have “vents” and it is kind of neat. 120 volt fans that were used in this vent project were bought and installed in the intake ducts.
