The original master bath utilized a drop in jacuzzi tub with a tile backsplash built on top for a shower enclosure. This meant that our moisture barrier was the caulking of the tile to tub interface alone. There were signs of water leaking, but no discernible damage from shower usage. The other huge problem was this soaking tub, since it was built as a tub only, meant that standing area was exceptionally narrow for the size of the appliance.
Not to mention the two circuits for the pump and heater were not GFCI protected!
After some considerable effort disassembling glass, chipping tile, removing backer board and plumbing fixtures, it was time to remove the tub. Luckily I had our floor jack on hand, because this puppy was stuck. Really, really stuck. I thought it was going to be heavier than it was, but alas it is all acrylic.
Almost to square one; stay tuned for the next phase of plumbing and slab exploration!
