House Hacking Project: Backyard Furniture

Re-purposed materials

This week we take a quick look at some well put together ideas for backyard or outdoor furniture and seating. From pallets to indoor furniture left outdoors for a rustic look, your imagination is the limit.

Here is a neat example of pallets sanded and painted in a lounge and table configuration. The table has small casters attached to make it mobile. The owners were searching to have custom cushions made, but the costs were prohibitive for the scope of this project. They were able to find a near perfect size work around- dog beds from Costco. Four of those, with some inexpensive throw pillows complete a cost effective outdoor seating and entertaining area!

Our next example finds some antique imported furniture, coated with an outdoor stain. The patina builds form year to year, and seat cushions are stored away to keep clean and free from weathering. A custom table of plain steel is oxidized and topped with a slab of granite. At nearly 400 pounds, you won’t shake your cocktail while putting your feet up here!
