Not a few weeks after we ordered our kitchen, Home Depot opened their new Design Center concept. Our region soft opened, and we rushed to see what kind of counters we could explore. As luck would have it, the second display in their showroom was our kitchen. Thomasville cabinets, Bosch appliances, and this drop dead… Continue reading Day 165- Quartz Counters and Sink

Day 161- Kitchen Wall Cabinet Installation
Day one was slow, we had to collate through the massive stack of boxes to find the cabinets we needed to start. All cabinets are mounted together as well as screwed into studs. Short wall nearly complete! Lots of shimming to get everything lined up perfectly. We had stacks on stacks on stacks of cardboard… Continue reading Day 161- Kitchen Wall Cabinet Installation
Day 112- Kitchen Part 2, Everything…
Now that we have our plans set, it is time to start making progress on every item in our punch list. The first step was to peel all of the drywall off our long wall, to relocated plumbing and electrical. Our original plan had the sink in the island, but our fall to the septic… Continue reading Day 112- Kitchen Part 2, Everything…
Day 92- Kitchen Part 1, Layout and Cabinets
I don’t even know where to start with the kitchen; we worked with plumbing, sewer, electric, gas, ducting, framing, stucco, windows, concrete, drywall, paint, cabinets, door pulls, counters, appliances… This was the primary mission of the entire remodel, what didn’t we cover? Day 92 is the day we finalized our cabinet purchase and paid in… Continue reading Day 92- Kitchen Part 1, Layout and Cabinets
Day 141- Custom Hood, Day 237- Installation
What does Raging Cider have to do with this project? We would have never met this amazing metal shop owner if he didn’t have a passion for cider. I saw this copper bar top, and knew something special was going on. When I saw the stainless sink in the bathroom, it confirmed there was more… Continue reading Day 141- Custom Hood, Day 237- Installation
Day 83- Toilets Re-installed
It may not seem like a big deal, until you are stuck using a porta john in 110+F weather. We repurposed both commodes, as they were nice Toto units. New soft close seats, valves, flaps, and handles with new finishes were installed prior to remounting.
Day 119- Emergency Water Supply and Pump
There were three fires within 3 miles while we were working on our remodel. This is not the sight you want to see while returning from picking up materials! While we never lost water pressure, I decided to develop an emergency water supply that could augment our city supply in case a wet down was… Continue reading Day 119- Emergency Water Supply and Pump
Day 81- Interior Doors
Another delivery… Our interior doors showed up in excellent shape. The shop we sourced our baseboards from recommended a finish carpenter, who had a crew install baseboards in all rooms and closets, hung four doors, and door casings in one afternoon for a price that was too good to beat. This saved me a ton… Continue reading Day 81- Interior Doors
Day 85- Master Closets
A trip back in time to our Day 55- Materials are Stacking Up post. Cedar planks and closet organizers where all ordered ahead of time, saving time and hassle running around to pick up and haul the materials myself. If you have the time, I highly recommend delivery of bulk items. Delivery can be next… Continue reading Day 85- Master Closets
Day 78- Hall Bath Tile
Scratch coat is complete! Our tub was lined with multiple layers of heavy cardboard, then plastic. We opted for a large format subway tile, but would we overlap in thirds? Or would we overlap in halves? We opted for third overlap, and are pleased with the outcome. Our tile contractor wasted no time getting this… Continue reading Day 78- Hall Bath Tile
